Who is the site manager?
At Michigan State University, Walter Hawthorne is a professor of African, Atlantic, and Digital History; director of Matrix: Center for Digital Humanities and Social Science; director of Enslaved.org; and an editor of the Journal of Slavery and Data Preservation. His research focuses on the history of Atlantic slavery and the Atlantic trade in enslaved people of African descent. He has also written on African agricultural practices, foodways, religious beliefs, and family structures in the Old and New Worlds.
